Organized in 1981, the Society exists to encourage genealogical research and interest in family history; help others gather genealogical information; and preserve historical and genealogical material. Regular meetings are held the third Friday of the month, 7:30-9:30 P.M. There are no meetings for the months of August and December. The main feature of each meeting is a guest speaker presenting a program of genealogical interest. Society business is conducted as needed, including announcements of activities of related societies. Refreshments are provided. Meetings are free to the public. |

Established in 1972, the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society was incorporated in 1986 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization by a group of Santa Barbara genealogists living in the Santa Barbara County area. Its purpose is to promote study and research in genealogy by providing assistance and educational opportunities for those who are interested in pursuing their family history. It also aids in the collection and preservation of genealogical records, supports a library specializing in genealogy and local history, and holds meetings to provide information and continuing education on genealogical subjects. Today the genealogy collection in the SBCGS Library has grown to over 9000 volumes and over 450 CD-ROMs and is still increasing due to the generosity of over 600 members of the Society. |

The Southern California Genealogical Society exists to foster interest in family history and genealogy, preserve genealogical materials, and provide instruction in accepted and effective research techniques. The Southern California Genealogical Society was organized January 10, 1964. The Society is a non-profit corporation and enjoys 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Donations of cash or library materials made to the Society may qualify as charitable contributions. SCGS held its annual Genealogy Jamboree for 41 years. The 2010 event is an ambitious three-day program with several special events and activities. Be sure to stop by the SCGS table for research assistance, membership information, sale of duplicate and used genealogical items, and many publications. |

She has been featured in top media outlets, including The View, Better Homes & Gardens, the Boston Globe, Martha Stewart Living, MSNBC, New Morning (Hallmark Channel), Life Magazine, DIY: Scrapbooking, PBS Ancestors, Claritin’s Moment of Clarity, Creative Memories’ Lasting Moments, Dear Myrtle, and Satisfaction Magazine. Maureen is the author of a number of books and magazine articles, as well as a contributing editor at Family Tree Magazine and editorial board member of Legacy Magazine. When you come to Jamboree to meet with Maureen, be sure to bring the original picture, as well as a photocopy for note taking. Photo Consultation Services If you’ve enjoyed Maureen Taylor’s presentation, and would like to have her analyze your own family photographs, here’s how. For the past 10 years, Maureen has been providing in-depth analysis of historical photos, primarily for people who are researching their family histories. Maureen estimates that she’s studied over 10,000 photos in the past decade and The Wall Street Journal recently called her “the nation’s foremost historical photo detective.” Maureen has been interested in old family photos since she was a child. She has a graduate degree in history and has worked as a photo curator, genealogist, and writer. Combining all these interests as a photo identification/preservation expert, the focus of her work has centered on family photography, history and genealogy.
