Mark Golden: A Case Study in World War II Research

This talk presents a case study of a pilot and crew of a B-17 shot down over Germany, illustrating how to find and access multiple sources to learn about the experiences of these WWII heroes.

Mary Roddy, a Certified Public Accountant, has been a genealogist for 13 years. She earned a certificate from the Genealogy and Family History program at the University of Washington. She is an active member of the Seattle Genealogical Society and speaks frequently in the Seattle area. Her article 'Mark Golden: A Case Study in World War II Research,' appeared in Family Chronicle Magazine.

Mobile Capturing of Your Ancestor's Documents and Pictures

The presentation touches on the use and the pros and cons of a variety of methods: portable photocopiers, flatbed and wand scanners, Flip-Pal, digital camera and smart phone. The lecture will deal with capturing images in relative’s homes, archives & libraries getting permissions, and scanning pictures and documents in bound books, large ledgers, photo albums. I also cover scanning large images, and artifacts, photographing artifacts.

He currently operates Family Roots Publishing Company, writes daily at GenealogyBlog.com, edits the twice-weekly Genealogy Newsline and conducts the annual Salt Lake Christmas Tour (now in its 29th year), and speaks nationally, having given over 2000 lectures since 1983.

Tips, Strategies, & Resources for the African American Researcher

More African American specific resources, as well as other essential materials, are becoming available. However there are a multitude of great resources out there already that are virtually unknown and/or underutilized. This presentation will provide updated tips and strategies for conducting African American research.

Tim Pinnick is a national lecturer with more than 27 years overall research experience including all the major U.S. repositories, author of “Finding and Using African American Newspapers” released May, 2008, former board member of APG and FGS, instructor in the African American track at the summer Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research.
