About the Event
SCGS's Webinar Series hosts genealogist Colin Whitney on Wednesday, April 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. PDT online and at the SCGS Family Research Library in Burbank. In his presentation, "Early California History: Its Records and the New California Pioneer Lineage Program," Colin will review Colonial California's history from San Diego's 1769 settlement to its statehood in 1850. His presentation will cover Spanish/Mexican colonization, Mexican Independence, the missions, and land grants.
Mexican rule ended after the Mexican-American War. Massive immigration during the Gold Rush transformed California forever. These events generated copious genealogical records. We will examine which repositories contain them, highlighting the new California Pioneer Certificate Lineage Program, which includes over 500,000 pioneer records.
