In celebration of Black History Month, the Southern California Genealogical Society's popular Lunch & Learn program will host genealogist Leslie Anderson on Saturday, February 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. PST. Her online presentation is "The Bryans Brothers and the United States Colored Troops."
About the Presentation
In her online lecture, Leslie will examine the personal lives of the Bryans brothers, who served in the Civil War. One died in poverty, another worked as a coal miner, and the third passed for White and became a county official. The Bryans are close to Leslie's heart: her paternal great-great-grandfather was Joseph Bryans, who served with Company K, 45th United States Colored Troops. Joseph's brother, William (Leslie's great-great-granduncle), served in Company K, 127th U.S. Colored Troop; his brother, Stephen, served in Company C, 24th U.S. Colored Troop. All three served, survived, and successfully applied for pensions.
