Michael Provard Offers Insights Into FamilySearch Memories Tool for SCGS Jambore '23

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

FamilySearch Event Coordinator Michael Provard presents "Cherishing Your Family Inheritance with Michael Provard" on Friday, October 6 at 7:15 p.m. at the Southern California Genealogical Society's (SCGS) upcoming conference, Jamboree 2023. Provard will give attendees a tour of FamilySearch's Memories feature, which helps preserve photos, stories, documents, and audio file recordings about your ancestors. Memories can be used on the FamilySearch website and in the official FamilySearch mobile apps.

"It’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words," explains Provard. "Photographs that we have of our ancestors and family could actually be worth more than a thousand words; in fact, they are priceless. These photos capture a moment in time in the lives of our family. The location, time of day, the people in the photo, the background, and the props all contribute to the infinite tapestry that we call family history."

Provard will Provide Insight into

FamilySearch Tools

Provard's presentation for Jamboree will explain what FamilySearch Memories is, how to get precious memories into digital form, and the steps involved in uploading and tagging the memories and people in the FamilySearch Family Tree. He will also discuss the Southern California Genealogical Society’s collaboration with FamilySearch to help local library patrons scan and upload memories on-site at the SCGS Family Research Library in Burbank.

Provard has worked at FamilySearch since 1985 and is a member of the RootsTech core team. He has presented at national genealogical and library conferences, specializing in beginning research, FamilySearch topics, and Illinois research. His insightful articles and blogs are frequently featured on the website.

FamilySearch, a leading organization in the worldwide family history industry, has been gathering records for nearly 130 years. In 2013, they revamped the website to include precious memories (photographs, documents, stories, and audio recordings) that help fill out the lives of our ancestors. The Memories section of FamilySearch is a place where users can store thousands of memories for free and allow extended family worldwide to share in the beauty of these family treasures.

Jamboree 2023 is a three-day event presented by SCGS, held online, at the organization's Research Library, 406 Irving Dr, Burbank, CA 91504, and across the street at the Burbank Masonic Lodge, 406 Irving Dr, Burbank, CA 91504. The conference will feature a weekend of presentations, discussions, and roundtables focused on genealogy.
